One study on mice tested I3C and its effect on weight. Women typically hold this fat in their hips and thighs ( 8).Īlong with balancing estrogen, DIM and its precursor, indole-3-carbinol (I3C), can also suppress adipogenesis, which is the process of producing new fat cells. So, the more fat you have, the more estrogen you make. To make matters worse, both men and women produce estrogen in their fat tissues. Too much or too little estrogen can cause the body to store more fat ( 7). AcneĭIM’s balancing effect on estrogen can also help shed some unwanted pounds. It may also work as a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. In general, DIM’s ability to prevent large increases or decreases in estrogen can help with a number of issues, including acne, menopause symptoms, weight gain and even cancer. DIM Supplement BenefitsĭIM is most effective in helping maintain hormonal balance, especially between estrogen and testosterone in both men and women. Supplements can be taken to provide a much higher dosage of DIM than you’ll likely get from just consuming vegetables. DIM can help support detoxification and help balance hormones. Summary: Diindolymethane (DIM) is a natural compound found in cruciferous vegetables, including cabbage, broccoli and Brussels sprouts. So, if you’re considering taking a DIM supplement, don’t forget to continue eating your veggies, too! On the other hand, a DIM supplement will lack all of the other beneficial nutrients-including fiber, vitamins and minerals-that come with consuming whole cruciferous vegetables.įor example, another glucobrassicin found in broccoli was shown to be more effective in inhibiting colon cancer than I3C and DIM ( 3). Low-temperature steaming for 3-4 minutes may be the best way to both reduce those goitrogenic components and preserve the compounds that transform into DIM in your body ( 2).īut supplements can offer you a much higher dosage of DIM than you’d likely be able to consume in vegetables. That said, those who have an underactive thyroid and are also deficient in iodine may need to be especially careful of the amount of these vegetables they consume raw. However, this is typically only the case when consumed in very large quantities. Cooking, boiling or microwaving this group of vegetables actually reduces the absorption of glucobrassicin and DIM in the body ( 1).īut if you take away the heat and eat your cruciferous vegetables raw or even fermented (like with sauerkraut), you may run into another possible issue: goitrogens.Ĭruciferous vegetables are naturally high in goitrogens, which can potentially impact thyroid production. First of all, any heat can lessen the impact of DIM. Lip twitching is evident during the withdrawal period, as well as for a significant length of time after recovery. This can also happen during excessive use of such substances. Substance WithdrawalĪfter a time period without neurostimulants such as caffeine, alcohol, or street drugs, a person can experience lip twitching. Essential tremors are not part of the natural ageing process. It appears usually after the age of 40, and symptoms become progressively worse over time. No cause has been determined, however, those with a family history of essential tremors have a 50% chance of also experiencing these tremors. Not to be confused with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremors occur as the body’s response to muscle contractions from a neurological condition. Lip twitching may be a symptom of essential tremors which can affect the head and extremities. The twitching usually lasts until we focus on the event causing the emotional reaction. We also may experience pupil dilation, facial flushing, speech impediment, and watery eyes. The nerve endings in our upper and lower lips are stimulated by the autonomic nervous system, and its sympathetic nervous system. In cases where we become overly excited, distraught, or completely overwhelmed, our lips may begin to tremble. We will take a look at upper lip twitching causes, as well as lower lip twitching causes. There is always a reason for our lips to twitch, whether from emotional distress to a neurological health condition. GateToken (GT) is GateChain’s native currency. Our study also provides additional estimates of the horizontal offset associated with the 1957 earthquake along the western part of the Bogd rupture, complementing previously published studies. These variations are consistent with the restraining bend geometry of the Bogd Fault. Our results show that the left-lateral slip rate isâˆ❁ mm yr–1 along the WIB and EIB segments andâˆ❀.5 mm yr–1 along the NIB segment. In this paper, we measure slip rates over the past 200 ka at four sites distributed across the three western segments of the Bogd Fault. Morphological analysis of offset streams, ridges and alluvial fans—particularly well preserved in the arid environment of the Gobi region—allows evaluation of late Quaternary slip rates along the different faults segments. West to East these segments are, respectively: the West Ih Bogd (WIB), The North Ih Bogd (NIB), the West Ih Bogd (WIB), the West Baga Bogd (WBB) and the East Baga Bogd (EBB) segments. The Bogd Fault is 260 km long and can be subdivided into ï¬ve main geometric segments, based on variation in strike direction. We carried out morphotectonic studies along the left-lateral strike-slip Bogd Fault, the principal structure involved in the Gobi-Altay earthquake of 1957 December 4 (published magnitudes range from 7.8 to 8.3). Combining our slip rate estimates and the slip distribution per event we also determined a mean recurrence interval of ~2500-5200 yr for past Moreover, using these data, we re-estimate the moment magnitude of the Gobi-Altay earthquake at Mw 7.78-7.95. Along the three western segments, we measure cumulative displacements that are multiples of the 1957 coseismic offset, which may be consistent with a characteristic slip. We show that the mean horizontal offset associated with the 1957 earthquake decreases progressively from 5.2 m in the west to 2.0 m in the east, reflecting the progressive change of kinematic style from pure left-lateral strike-slip faulting to left-lateral-reverse faulting. Our results show that the left-lateral slip rate is ~1 mm yr-1 along the WIB and EIB segments and ~0.5 mm yr-1 along the NIB segment. Morphological analysis of offset streams, ridges and alluvial fans-particularly well preserved in the arid environment of the Gobi region-allows evaluation of late Quaternary slip rates along the different faults segments. The Bogd Fault is 260 km long and can be subdivided into five main geometric segments, based on variation in strike direction. Slip rate and slip magnitudes of past earthquakes along the Bogd left-lateral strike-slip fault (Mongolia) Temperatures reach into the mid-80s, and nights are also warm, averaging in the high 60s. May’s blooming orchids and lush, green foliage make plantation and bayou tours incredibly vibrant and colorful.īy now, alligators also start to remerge from hibernation and stick around through October - making swamp tours an especially thrilling experience for taking in the local wildlife. When it does, flight and hotel rates skyrocket as tourists clamber for a front-row seat to the action surrounding Bourbon Street and the historic French Quarter, where many of the parades process.Ĭoming off the months of winter, March tends to be the least-humid month in New Orleans, and also less rainy than other times of the year. Mardi Gras, the biggest event of the year in New Orleans, occurs 40 days before Easter, meaning it can land as late as early March. For some travelers, however, the hype is worth the price. This season welcomes 1 outdoor festival after another, as the fabulous weather keeps tourists out around the clock.Īll of this is to say that spring is the most expensive time to visit New Orleans. While you might think Mardi Gras is where the springtime celebrations start and end, New Orleans is just getting started. If Fat Tuesday falls late in the year, the beginning of spring can coincide with Mardi Gras, or Carnival - the city’s biggest and most raucous party of the year - when tourists from around the country come to see costumed performers take to the streets, catch beads thrown by fellow revelers on ornate parade floats, and attend parties and masquerade balls through the wee hours. The weather starts to warm up, some of the city’s biggest festivals get underway, the food is fabulous - hello, crawfish season! - and the blooming flowers and emerging wildlife are a serious draw for anyone looking to venture out into the bayou on a swamp tour. However, while most months of the year are calm and pleasant, weather-wise, certain windows can experience extreme rises in crowds and temperatures, causing prices (and your sweat levels) to skyrocket. Harsh winters rarely touch the American South, especially New Orleans. When it comes right down to it, though, planning your visit to the Big Easy is all about timing. This is the birthplace of jazz, a major purveyor of Creole cuisine, and ground zero for one of America’s biggest celebrations - Mardi Gras. Built by French colonists in 1718 prior to the Louisiana Purchase, the state’s coastal capital has been a cultural crossroads for food, music, and language for generations. Big Fish premiered on December 4, 2003, at the Hammerstein Ballroom and was released in limited capacity on December 10, 2003, by Columbia Pictures followed by a wide release on January 9, 2004. Big Fish was shot on location in Alabama in a series of fairy tale vignettes evoking the tone of a Southern Gothic fantasy. The film's theme of reconciliation between a dying father and his son had special significance for Burton, as his father had died in 2000 and his mother in 2002, a month before he signed on to direct. Zanuck took over after completing Planet of the Apes (2001) and brought Ewan McGregor and Albert Finney on board. Spielberg considered Jack Nicholson for the role of Edward Bloom, but eventually dropped the project to focus on Catch Me If You Can (2002). Big Fish is a 2003 American fantasy drama film directed by Tim Burton, and based on the 1998 novel of the same name by Daniel Wallace. I got this film via Amazon in the "4-Movie Midnight Marathon Pack: Psychos" - a worthwhile collection even though I am not fond of "Bates Motel". Several things wrong with this film: It's not funny (I only got a couple of laughs out of it in the beginning), irritating characters, and the story does not make any since at all - the whole "1950s" thing with the ghost saving the woman's life should have been left out of this film - would have been much better with out it. There are only very loose connections to the "Psycho" franchise. Watch this film ONLY out of curiosity and do not expect anything near the "Psycho" film series because this is far, far away from them. I DO NOT recommend this film to fans of the "Psycho" film series nor would I recommend this film to fans of comedy films. This has become a stand alone "fanboy" type of film - so I've heard. As other reviewers have mentioned: This made for TV film is a pilot for a TV series that never materialized nor is this film in any way a part of the "Psycho" franchise. If you have any stuffed safari animals, use them as decoration props. Add vine and palm leaves to them for extra effect. Make some vines by twisting together brown craft paper. Next create some tissue paper garlands to hang around the area and suddenly you already have the perfect jungle feel. This can easily be achieved using budget friendly plastic tablecloth’s in your chosen party colors. It is a good idea to create a party backdrop. Think of brown, green, yellow, orange and white as a good starting point and it’s easy to build from there. Whilst there are some specific party ideas further down the post with decorating ideas, the simplest way to decorate the party space is to stick to the earthy colors. There are a lot of safari party supplies that can be purchased, as well as using other items found in the dollar store. How Do I Decorate For A Safari Party?ĭecorating for a safari theme party is going to be a LOT of fun.
